New analysis from  Northumberland Labour reveals the huge savings households in Northumberland are set to enjoy from their energy bills following the budget. The Chancellor announced households will save an average £150 each thanks to Labour action to tackle the cost of living. Across Northumberland that amounts to a total £22,038,300

As well as £150 off energy bills (£300 for poorer households with the Warm Home Discount) cost of living measures announced in the budget include:

  • Commuters will save hundreds of pounds on their season tickets after rail fares were frozen for the first time in 30 years.

  • An extension of the temporary 5p fuel duty cut for an extra 5 months, a further fuel duty freeze, and the new UK wide Fuel Finder scheme will save the average driver £89.

  • Boosting pay-packets with a £900 rise for full time workers on the National Living Wage and National Minimum wage. Full-time workers on the 18-20 National Minimum Wage rate will see a £1,500 rise.

  • Thanks to the government’s commitment to the pension triple lock for this parliament, pensioners on the full new state pension will receive an extra £575 a year from April 2026.

Publishing the analysis, Northumberland Labour’s Leader Scott Dickinson MBE said,

“Labour is acting to support Northumberland families with the cost of living. We know times are tough, and we know every little helps - that’s why we are cutting energy bills by £150 per household from April.

“And it doesn’t stop there - we are freezing train fares, extending the fuel duty cut and raising the minimum wage again.

“It will take time to fully turn this country around – but change has begun. And Labour locally and nationally is taking decisive action to make you and your family better off.”
