The A1 issue has been with us for my entire lifetime.

Yesterday was a monumental day in Northumberland County Council. Councillors from across the chamber put politics to one side, behaved like adults, and spoke with one united voice on the future of the A1.

For decades, families have lost loved ones and lives have been changed forever on this road. This has never been, and should never become, a political issue. It is about public safety, protecting communities, and ensuring that no more families have to experience the heartbreak that so many already have.

Yesterday showed what can be achieved when we work together. Regardless of political party, we all recognised the need to send a clear and united message: Northumberland deserves a safer A1.

Now that we have spoken with one voice, we must keep that momentum going and continue pressing for the investment and action our county has waited far too long for.
