Local Labour Leader Welcomes Moor Farm Roundabout Upgrade Approval
The Leader of Northumberland Labour has today welcomed confirmation that long-awaited upgrades to Moor Farm Roundabout will now progress, marking a major step forward for infrastructure in the North East.
The scheme, now included in the Government’s Road Investment Strategy (RIS3) pipeline, follows sustained campaigning by local MP Emma Foody and decisive action from the Labour Government.
Welcoming the announcement, Cllr Scott Dickinson MBE, Leader of Northumberland Labour, said:
“This is hugely welcome news and a long-overdue investment in our region. For too long, Moor Farm Roundabout has been a bottleneck holding back growth, frustrating residents, and creating daily congestion.
“This decision shows what happens when you have a Labour Government working hand in hand with a strong local MP. Emma Foody has been relentless in making the case for this upgrade, and she deserves real credit for getting this over the line.
“It is also a clear example of Labour doing things differently recognising the importance of investing in regions like ours and ensuring the North East gets its fair share after years of being overlooked.”
The Moor Farm Roundabout upgrade is expected to ease congestion, improve safety, and unlock economic growth across the wider North East, supporting both local communities and businesses.
The project will now move forward to consultation later this year, with a full business case currently in development.
Cllr Dickinson added:
“This is about more than just a roundabout it’s about unlocking opportunity, supporting jobs, and making sure infrastructure keeps pace with growth.
“After years of inaction, it’s good to see progress being delivered. We will continue working with partners to ensure this scheme moves forward as quickly as possible and delivers for our communities.”
