Doing the right thing is important for democracy in Northumberland

Today, a discussion took place following the call-in by backbench councillors on the decision-making process relating to the old Hexham fire station.
For me, this was about process and about calling out decisions that are not made properly, openly, and transparently.
It serves as a reminder to all councillors, and particularly the Conservatives currently running the Council, that decisions are being taken on behalf of residents about public assets. That means they must be handled correctly, in the open, and with full transparency.
I will always call out decisions where I believe the process has been wrong. I fully support the need for investment and a clear depot plan to ensure staff have the facilities they need, but that can never come at the expense of proper decision-making.
Doing things the right way matters.
