Farming is so important to Northumberland
Farming is so important to Northumberland Thank you for contacting me about compassion in world farming. I am grateful that you took the time to write, and I am glad of the opportunity to set out my views to you. The UK should aim to lead the world with high animal welfare standards and so Labour will continue to press for the highest standards in food quality. We will not allow Brexit to be used as an excuse for food standards to be reduced or to allow cheap and inferior produce to flood the UK market. We recognise that as a country we need to change our relationship with food and as such Labour will bring forward new proposals on food labelling as well as bringing forward plans to reduce waste. On farming, we will reconfigure funding to ensure that community benefits and sustainable practices are promoted so that the industry can thrive and succeed whilst benefitting local communities. We will promote cruelty-free animal husbandry and will consult on ways to ensure that agreed standards are better enforced. As your candidate, I am grateful for every opportunity hear what you think and also to set out my views to you. Ultimately, this General Election is a choice between a Labour Party who will stand up for the many and a Conservative Party which only looks after the privileged few, and I hope you will consider putting your trust in me, and in Labour.
