A machine trench was dug to look at the soil profile and by pure chance landed on top of 2 burial cists! Nearby was a large, stone packed posthole.

No bones or any dating material but very likely to be Early Bronze Age, about 4,000 years old. Similar cists have been found at Hauxley but nothing like this at the Cresswell end of the bay. Quite remarkable. The volunteers on the dig have been absolutely brilliant, working in really challenging weather - bitterly cold, biting easterly wind, rain & sleet etc. But we have achieved a huge amount in the first week, come and have a look if you get the chance.

Scott said: "I am delighted to see this project at full steam ahead. There has been volunteers from Hadston and surrounding areas there being being part of the experience. It's going to be great for the area once complete. My continued thanks goes to Barry Mead and the team who work on the project and keep me in the loop."
